The nose is full of ripe red fruits, sweet spice, clove and black pepper along with a touch of tobacco. The mouthfeel shows raspberries and cassis layered with notes of cedar and thyme. The finely grained tannins add structure and length on the soft finish."

The Tilia Chardonnay shows a straw-yellow colour with light shades of green. The nose presents ripe tropical fruit aromas with pear, peach, pineapple and floral notes. The mouth feel is full and rich, with concentrated pear and tropical fruit flavours with layers of vanilla and sweet spice from light oak aging. The finish is clean and fresh with bright, crisp acidity. The Tilia wines are made with a combination of fruit sourced from the traditional eastern sub-region of Mendoza, and the area's dynamic southern region. Tilia is the Latin name for Linden, is a traditional tree throughout the wine country of Mendoza. The Tilia wines are made at the Bodegas Esmeralda winery in eastern Mendoza by Alejandro Viggiani, the winemaker and viticulturalist in charge of all Catena family vineyards in eastern Mendoza. This Chardonnay would pair well with most chicken dishes, pasta dishes with cream sauces, and many seafood recipes.

The Catena wines are a special assemblage of High Mountain Estate Vineyards made by fourth generation vintner, Laura Catena and chief winemaker, Alejandro Vigil. Although we have found that most of the Catena wines are consumed shortly after release, we are pleased to see that they age beautifully for ten to twenty years. Through decades of study and exploration within Mendoza's high altitude mountain terroirs, the Catena family has identified special locations for its Estate vineyards. From the marriage of these historic vineyards emerges a wine of unique character that has natural balance, concentration and a distinct varietal identity.

A Blend of Four Vineyards - vineyards are divided into lots that are harvested at different times: Agrelo 3,117 ft. (950 m) elevation: aluvial origin. Clay topsoil with rounded rocks on the bottom. Villa Bast as 3,675 ft. (1,120 m) elevation: aluvial origin. Silt loamy soil with limestone on the bottom. Altamira in La Consulta 3,593 ft. (1,095 m) elevation: aluvial origin. Loamy soil, with rounded rocks on the bottom. El Cepillo, Eugenio Bustos 3,593 ft. (1,090 m) elevation: aluvial origin. Loam-sandy soil with thick calcareous layers and rounded rocks on the bottom.

Before the world recognized Catena's Argentina as "Malbec country", the winery was known for its old-world style Cabernet Sauvignon born in the clay-soils of Agrelo. The family cherishes its historic Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in Agrelo and Tupungato, particularly for their agreeability and classic flavors. Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from Lot 3 of the La Piråmide vineyard, Lot 2 of the Domingo vineyard and Lot 2 of the Nicasia Vineyard. Elevage: 18 months in French oak barrels.

Nicola Catena planted his first Malbec vineyard in Mendoza in 1902. His grandson, Nicol's Catena, is known as the man who revolutionized Argentine wine and introduced high altitude Malbec to the world. The Historic Catena Zapata vineyards are planted with the Catena family's proprietary selection of malbec plants: the Catena Cuttings. Catena Alta Malbec is sourced from Block 18 of the Angélica vineyard, Block 4 of the La Piråmide vineyard, Block 1 of the Nicasia vineyard and Blocks 3 & 9 of the Adrianna vineyard.
